Severe Weather Conditions

Eyewitness Account

Osmond Ebanks, a long-time resident living close to the fire station, described the harrowing scene. Upon hearing sirens, he ventured outside to investigate and saw downed power lines, the car pinned beneath the fallen tree, and the flashing lights of FHP vehicles.

“There was a big tree on the road. I’m saying something went wrong. I got a little closer, and I noticed that the passenger side of the car was crushed,” Ebanks recounted. “I can’t imagine what those parents are going through. There’s no way I can say I know what you’re feeling. I don’t. It’s a grief that is unbearable.”

Potential Hazards and Community Concerns

Ebanks noted that the towering trees lining both sides of Reams Road have been there for many years and could pose a significant threat to motorists, especially during hurricane season. He expressed hope that the family of the young victim would find solace and urged the community to rally around them.

“Pray for the family, pray for the comfort that they will hopefully will receive some counseling, because, again, it’s a devastation to lose a child,” Ebanks said.
